Transformational Learning Opportunity (TLO) Workshops

The Office of Undergraduate Studies and the Office of Faculty Enhancement (OFE) will be hosting two workshops to help faculty plan for Transformational Learning Opportunities (TLOs) and to apply for the TLO Grant Program. The first session will provide an overview of the program and foundational perspectives. The second session will provide a hands-on workshop for developing effective assessment strategies.


The TLO Application Deadline for projects taking place in 2017-2018 (July 1, 2017-June 30, 2018) is Friday, October 28, 2016. Find more details on the TLO Application webpage.

Global to Local: Call for Applications

Community-engaged scholars gain insights into community systems that address community needs
using informed and authentic methods. These insights can be applied in local and global communities. The University of North Georgia is inviting papers on local and global community engagement to be published in an open-access compendium. Please see the announcement from the compendium organizers below.   

Community Engagement Compendium: Local is Global

The University of North Georgia is issuing a Call for Papers for an open access community engagement compendium. This compendium will undergo rigorous blind peer review to ensure the quality of the scholarship.

The focus of this compendium is the linkage between local, regional, national, and international engagement. How does local engagement impact national engagement? How can lessons learned from international engagement activities cross over to local engagement projects?

The editors encourage submissions related to the following:

· Outcomes of regional engagement initiatives

   International impact of local and regional engagement projects

   Mandatory vs. Volunteer Engagement

   How to measure scholarly engagement

   Community Engagement and P&T

Please submit all papers to upng@ung.edu.

Proposal Criteria:

All submissions must be original unpublished work.

Papers must be between 5,000-9,000 words in length.

Citations must follow MLA or APA standards.

2013-2014 Transformational Learning Opportunity Applications

Central to the University's core mission is the ability to provide students with educational learning opportunities that will be rich and transformative. Full-time, non-visiting faculty and staff are encouraged to submit applications for an eighth round of Transformational Learning Opportunity (TLO) projects for fiscal year 2013-2014, July 1, 2013, to June 30, 2014. To obtain the application, click here. Before completing the TLO application, review the TLO Application Guide for completion instructions.

Applications from all categories are welcome, but special consideration will be given to proposals that align with the following designations that speak to UNF and the State University System Board of Governors' strategic goals: undergraduate research, community-based learning and global awareness experiences. The application deadline is 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18. Submit both a hardcopy and electronic copy for undergraduate and graduate TLOs to Martina Perry, academic support services coordinator in Undergraduate Studies, at martina.perry@unf.edu and in Building 1, Daniel Hall, Undergraduate Studies, Room 1501.

Transformational Learning Opportunity Applications Now Accepted

Applications from full-time (non-visiting) faculty and staff for Transformational Learning Opportunity (TLO) projects for fiscal year 2012-2013 are now being accepted and can be obtained here. Before completing the TLO application, review the TLO application guide, also on the same Web page. This year, there are separate application forms for undergraduate TLOs and graduate TLOs. If a project involves both graduate and undergraduate students, complete both application forms. For more information about the various forms a TLO could take, as well as a listing and description of previously-funded TLOs, click here. The application deadline is 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20. Submit both a hard copy and an electronic copy of the undergraduate and graduate TLO applications to Martina Perry at martina.perry@unf.edu in Building 1, Daniel Hall, Undergraduate Studies, Room 1501.

Study Abroad Workshop offered at UNF by the International Center

Faculty Leading Study Abroad Workshop

Faculty planning to lead students abroad this coming year should attend the workshop, “Safety Abroad: Preparing to Lead Overseas Activities,” from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25, in the Brooks Addition, Building 39A, Room 1032.

This faculty workshop will address safety and risk management issues such as faculty responsibilities/liability, health insurance, student conduct, crisis management and several other important items. Attendance is required for all faculty who wish to lead UNF students abroad. The workshop will inform faculty about issues related to study-abroad classes, help to prevent problems from happening and also prepare faculty to handle a situation if one arises.
